Voting Information

Voting runs from Sept. 26 to October 3, 2020
Voting started Saturday, September 26th at 12:00 pm ET and runs until Saturday, October 3 at 6:30 pm ET.

All Green Party members are automatically registered to vote online and will receive an email with the ballot link when voting opens on September 26. The email will also include the member’s ID and voter PIN. The Green Party plans to announce the results at 5 pm Pacific / 8 pm Eastern on October 3, 2020. The GPC will be broadcasting the event live on Youtube and Facebook.

Voting can be done online or by mail. Mail-in ballots had to be requested by August 27th and must be received by GPC head office by September 28 at 5pm Eastern.

Ranked ballots – The Green Party of Canada has a ranked ballot in combination with the ability to choose a none of these options (NOTO). Ranked ballots allow voters to rank their candidates in order of preference from 1 down to 8.

When the ballots are counted, the first choice votes are added up. If one candidate receives over 50% of the vote, they win and the election is over. However, if no one receives 50% or more, the candidate with the least number of votes is eliminated from the race. The people who voted for that candidate then have their votes transferred to their second choice. This continues on until one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes. Members may rank just 1 candidate, any number of them, or none.

None Of These Options (formerly None Of The Above) – GPC ballots include none of these options (NOTO), which gives members the option to rank candidates below NOTO. However, candidates ranked below NOTO can still be counted if NOTO is removed from the ballot due to the ranked ballot / runoff system. Candidates that are not ranked on your ballot will not receive your vote, no matter how many rounds the ranked ballot goes through.

Green Friends and Family – Please encourage your Green friends and family to get to know David by calling him on his cell phone at: (250) 514-5507, visiting davidmerner.com or by joining David on his weekly Zoom Call. This Saturday, at 11 am Pacific / 2 pm Eastern will be our last Zoom call, so if you would like to ask David a question before voting, this Zoom call will be an excellent opportunity.

A phone call, Facebook message or an email to your friends and family is more convincing when it comes from you than David, because they know you. Please reach out and encourage your Green friends and family to vote for David Merner before the deadline!
