A Plan for Transforming the Green Party

A Plan for Transforming the Green Party

This week we announced our plan to rebuild the Green Party from the ground up. Thank you to everyone on our communications and policy teams who worked so hard to pull together our plan. It reflects the comments and ideas I heard as I crossed Canada in February and March, as well as in August and September.    Based on that feedback, I’m making a public pledge to all members of the Green Party:

I pledge to be the grassroots Leader that the Green Party needs at this critical time in our party’s history. We need a builder and a uniter – a leader who respects the wishes of Party members and who is willing to share power. We need a person who will lead by example and walk the Green Party talk with integrity. A leader who will empower members, riding associations, and local campaigns is essential to building our Party.  A leader who will unite our Party and focus on electing a strong Green caucus to Parliament — without compromising our values — is the kind of leader who can bring about the deep changes Canadians want and our planet needs.

Telephone Town Halls
This past Wednesday’s hundreds of people picked up their phone and engaged in a great conversation entirely in French. Thank you to former Green Party candidate Sylvie Lemieux for moderating our telephone town hall!   You can see it here   To see the previous week’s telephone town hall (English) click here   This Wednesday’s telephone town hall will be held in English for Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Former Green Party of Ontario Deputy Leader Victoria Serda will be moderating. So please join us and get ready to ask me your questions! Invite all Greens that you know!

Solutions to the Climate Emergency

We released our one page Climate Emergency summary platform this week. Thank you to our policy team for all the good work that went into shortening and sharpening our climate action message!  Here is the message:
We are standing at a precipice and face a clear choice: step into the climate emergency void or change course. Together, let’s change course.    To steer government onto a new course, the Green Party of Canada must become a credible force in Canadian politics and win seats in the House of Commons. We must require government to transition our society off fossil fuels and onto renewable energy, without leaving anyone behind. We must set our economy on a new, sustainable course. And we must address the causes of the pandemic, as well as prepare for future pandemics.   Click here to view my top three climate action priorities

Volunteer Spotlight
Nathe Perrone (they/them)  I am a non-binary person and intersectional activist. In the last six years, I have worked in summer camps for low-income youth and families from Quebec, and helped them to discover nature. About four years ago, I found out that injustice not only affects humans, but also animals. Since that wake-up call, I’ve been an activist for living beings. I hope to give them a better future. I strongly believe that to save the environment, we need to start with animal liberation. I also believe that we need to make our democracy more direct and promote a better involvement of the population.
