(Quebec) David Merner, leadership candidate for the Green Party of Canada, is calling for reforms to Canada’s justice and political systems during his campaign tour in Montreal this week. A former legal advisor and program director for federal and provincial governments, David was instrumental in the creation of a highly regarded reform of the justice and court process in BC. He understands the hard work it takes to build a better policing, justice and political system.
“We are in a time of transformational change. Canadians are tired of seeing the same scandals and abuses over and over. It’s time for real change and the Green Party of Canada is ready to make that happen,” said Merner at a recent event with local Green Party Members in Chicoutimi, QC. “As Greens we work with one another, and we work with everyone else, fighting to address the needs of everyday people.”
Merner is currently completing a cross-Canada tour, speaking to Canadians both through socially distanced in-person meetings and online discussions, “During this tour, we are constantly hearing the same thing: Canadians are tired of people in authority more interested in maintaining their power than fixing the real problems of society,” said Merner. “We’ve seen the Ontario and Quebec governments fumble the CoVid response because they were too busy chasing votes, we’ve seen ongoing abuses of minority groups by police and the courts. It’s time to make a change.”
As part of his tour Merner will be hosted by GPC members at events in Montreal, QC, on August 26 at Parc Molson at 5:00 PM, and Strathcona Park in Ottawa, Ontario, on August 27 at 5:30 PM.
